Corona....What Are These?

Corona....What Are These?

Coronaviruses (CoVs ) are a type of virus that can cause a range of respiratory, gastrointestinal, hepatic, and central nervous system of human, livestock, birds, bat, mouse, and many other wild animals in humans including common cold and more severe forms like Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus (MERS) which are life-threatening. They are enveloped viruses with a single-stranded RNA genome and a nucleocapsid cap. These viruses have strains that are capable of affecting animals and can be transmitted from animals to humans. We call that a spillover event. Human coronaviruses were discovered in the 1960s and the name was derived from the Latin word corona, which means that the characteristic appearance of the virus is like a crown. The virus consists of a lipid bilayer envelope which protect the virus when it is outside the host cell.

First Appearance

Its not the first time when these viruses have attacked the mankind. In 2003, there was an outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) which had begun the prior year in Asia, and secondary cases elsewhere in the world and the World Health Organization (WHO) had finally confirmed that the causative agent was a novel coronavirus. The second instance of the occurrence of these type of viruses again appeared to in September 2012, a new type of
coronavirus was identified, initially called as Novel Coronavirus 2012, and now officially named Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) based upon the location of origin.
Currently, the enemy attacking over the entire humanity globally i.e. Coronavirus disease 2019 had its genesis in Wuhan, China in December 2019, where a pneumonia outbreak was reported. Although the exact source of this new coronavirus is not yet eshtablished, it has been hypothesized that it may be linked to a seafood market in Wuhan, China where some people who were believed to visit the market and developed viral pneumonia caused by the new coronavirus.

How These Spreads..

The researchers are yet to uncover the exact dynamics of the transmission of the virus. However, here are a few channels through which it happens
• Via droplets released into the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes: These droplets generally do not travel more than a few feet, and they fall to the ground (or onto surfaces) in a few seconds — this is why social and physical distancing is effective in preventing the spread.
• Via surfaces of non-living objects contaminated by the Corona virus: As mentioned, these viruses and their various strains can sustain on non-living objects for only about 48 hours.
• Consumption of virus containing animal products
• Contact with an infected animal: A virus that is regularly transmitted from an animal to a human is called a zoonotic virus. When a virus passes from animals to humans for the first time it is called a spillover event. The COVID-19 pandemic that has disturbed the entire world is caused by a coronavirus named SARS-CoV-2 which belongs to a group of genetically related viruses including SARS-CoV and a number of other CoVs isolated from the BAT populations

Common Symptoms of Corona Infection

Dry Coughing
Sneezing multiple times
Fever
Difficulty in breathing
Tiredness

Apart from these mild symptoms, some people do become infected, but they do not develop any symptoms and don't feel unwell. However, these people function as potential carriers for these viruses and can transmit them to others.

What We Need To Defeat This Virus From Infecting...
Do not touch your face too often
It has been advised from the WHO that avoiding constant contact with your face reduces the probability of transmitting the virus from your hands to your nose and mouth where it can infect the body.

Do not travel unless necessary and avoid going into crowded places
Remaining isolated and circumventing contact with people is the one and only solution to protect ourselves from this dreadful virus

Wash your hands with soap and water or with solutions containing alcohol
Ethanol attacks and disrupts the envelope protein that acts as a protecting shield for the viruses including Corona virus. Hence, a hand sanitizer with >60% alcohol is an efficient tool to fight against this virus.

Consume healthy foods to boost up your IMMUNITY Raw turmeric is often used with hot milk, which is believed to keep the respiratory system healthy. Anti-inflammatory rich foods play an essential role in boosting the immune system.
